SAMPLE INVITATION LETTER Dear EC Colleague, I am writing on behalf of [your organization’s name] to invite you to [attend/participate] in our Day of Activism for the 2006 Back Up Your Birth Control Campaign on March 21st. [Your organization’s name] is participating in the 2006 Back Up Your Birth Control Campaign to expand access to and knowledge of emergency contraception. Emergency contraception (EC) is a safe, effective back-up birth control method that significantly reduces the risk of pregnancy after unprotected intercourse or contraceptive failure. EC is more effective the sooner it is taken. EC is seven times more effective if taken within the first 24 hours after intercourse and can reduce the risk of pregnancy by more than 75% if taken within 72 hours. Experts estimate half of all unintended pregnancies could be prevented with widespread awareness and use of EC. On March 21st, activists across the country will educate their friends, visit their legislators, hold press conferences and talk to their local doctors and pharmacists about the importance of expanding women’s access to this back-up birth control method.
